3. BRAIDED GLASS©
After Philip Glass

Gazing on glacier-drawn, plaited streams in Orphic mass,
every year changing course, never know which strands will last.
Braided river bars, all so like our scars, grow or fade away.
From this overlook, Toklat storybook, polychrome ballet.
Such braids of strife, is this our life, the joy of chance array?
Ribboning round the fallen boles and islets of today?

Braided-glass river pass, will the far-famed peak break through?
Ice mystique, hide and seek, poplar golds in view.
We’re Denali bound, tundra red and brown, will these clouds now lift?
Open up these hues, majestic rendezvous, still in mist.
We persevere with climbing fears the crumbling stones and roads.
And then it’s framed: blue sky, moraine, snowcaps juxtaposed.

Water dance, flood romance, Chihuly rotolo.
Granite beds, snow-melt fed, twining cold and bold.
Cyan purls that curl, milky silt aswirl, routing rocks and trees:
will they take a heart, make a work of art bloom in scree?
Such braids of strife, is this our life, the joy of chance array?
Ribboning round the fallen souls and the beauty of this day?
